Here it is: the second in our 6-week series of Women of Distinction Alumni interviews! Up this week is Christine Vigna, former Young Woman of Distinction and now Presidenct of YWCA Cambridge Board of Directors!
1. What was your reaction/thoughts when you were approached for a Women of Distinction nomination?
I was humbled and a little bit nervous to be honest!
2. What was the experience like?
The experience was amazing. To have the opportunity to share in this great honour, with such a passionate, accomplished and caring group of women felt like such a privilege. One that I will always treasure.
3. What have you been up to since your big win?
After moving back to Cambridge, I have been serving on the YW Board of Directors for the past 8 years. The Women of Distinction Award highlighted to me the incredible work the YWCA does in the community and the many lives the Organization’s work impacts. I knew that once I returned to my home town, it was an organization I wanted to contribute to and be a part of in some capacity.
4. Name the biggest overall lesson you’ve learned about leadership?
The biggest lesson in leadership I’ve learned is to stop asking permission and to just go for it. Its so important that we have the ultimate confidence in our abilities, or else how is anyone else supposed to?
5. What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
The best piece of advice I’ve received came from my mom. She always told us growing up to not shy away from the opportunities or situations that push you out of your comfort zone because that’s where the true growth happens. Have confidence that it will all work out!
