SUMMER WORKSHOPS & ACTIVITIES

DIY Scrapbooking Journals

Open to cis and trans girls, non-binary and two-Spirit Individuals Ages 8-12.
Monday, January 11

By now, we’ve probably already been seeing a lot of talk about the year 2020 and the pressure to share our feelings about the past year.

In this at-home workshop, we will be creating our own journals that can be used as an outlet for the things we might not feel like sharing openly. We will chat about the messaging that is often presented in a new year as well as some of the current language used about saying goodbye to 2020. Do we feel pressured to feel the same way about last year as the trendy narrative? What other narratives do we often hear when a new year comes, and how do those make us feel?

Included in at-home kit:
Notebooks
Scrapbooking paper
Glue
Scissors
Colouring/writing materials.
Instructions and discussion guide will be provided and an optional Zoom link for those who’d like to connect with the facilitators about the content.

To register for a kit, contact thew@ywcacambridge.ca or fill out the form below. Kit deliveries and Zoom chats take place on the Monday date listed only.

At home baking Challenge

Open to cis and trans girls, non-binary and two-Spirit Individuals Ages 8-12.
Monday, January 18

We’ve all heard of Nailed It, the baking challenge TV Show. Well, we decided to create a SHYFT At Home kit inspired by this wild and wacky Netflix fave (since we’re still waiting for a new season!).

Often in January, we hear a lot of talk about resolutions to eat ‘healthier’; well, we like resolutions about enjoying more cake. Let’s talk about how food resolutions make us feel, and have fun getting creative with cake while doing it.

Included in at-home kit:
Cake mix
Jar of icing
Various decorating materials
Instructions and discussion guide and optional Zoom link to decorate together.

To register for a kit, contact thew@ywcacambridge.ca or fill out the form below. Kit deliveries and Zoom chats take place on the Monday date listed only.

Sidewalk Tours

Coming to a Neighbourhood near you!

Did you attend a W program at your school? Do you miss us? Because we miss YOU! Over the last year, we have been running our programs virtually, but you may not have had an opportunity to connect with us. That’s why we thought we’d bring ourselves to your neighborhoods. Each Friday in August, we will be making rounds in the areas in which we frequently run programming in schools. We will go to a different Cambridge neighborhood each week. Stronger Together self-Care Kits

Kits available to all cis and trans women and girls or non-binary individuals ages 8 to 18, living in Cambridge.

Self-care can be a tricky topic! We often think of self-care as something we do when we are already feeling stressed out or struggling, but self-care can be many things we do to maintain and show some love for ourselves! They can be things like, not over scheduling ourselves, saying “No” to things we don’t really want to do or spending time in nature.

With the Region opening back up and the thoughts of returning to school again in the Fall, we may be feeling lots of big emotions. However we are feeling, we could all use a few new tools to help us slow down and take care. We got you! This Stronger Together Self-Care kit is full of items that are meant to soothe the body, mind and soul!

This package will contain some fun hands-on activities, self-care products, and fun additions (who doesn’t like a fidget toy?!) and all you need for journaling. A Self-Care Guide will also be included with some useful strategies and techniques, like breathing and mindfulness activities.

The number of kits available are limited so please email thew@ywcacambridge.ca to reserve your kit. Register by July 28

High School Bridging Program - Peer allies needed!

Helping youth transition into grade 9 with this unique peer support program.
Aug 25, Sept 8, 22 & Oct 6
6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

We’ve been thinking a lot as a team about how we can support folks as they venture into a new school year full of some familiar and some very new experiences. We have landed on something we are calling the bridging program. This program will provide cis and trans girls, two spirit and non binary youth who are heading into grade 9 an opportunity to connect with folks who are already in high school. Our hope is this will be an opportunity to create community for youth as they transition into new schools filled with new structure, teachers and peers.

But first! We are looking for some high school age allies! If you are currently in high school and are interested in joining us to offer wisdom and a listening ear we would LOVE to connect with you.

Please send Sam an email (s.germann@ywcacambridge.ca) so we can chat more about the program and answer any other questions you may have.

Are you interested in reconnecting with us, but are unable to attend an in-person group all week, during the day? We’ve got you covered! Our art camp activities this past week were a hit, so we decided to offer a mini, in-person version. We have two special (socially distanced) outings planned, as well as a take home kit of supplies for a couple of activities that participants can do at home. We will meet at The W and head out to spend some socially distanced time together at a couple of Galt’s most fun spots! To register complete the registration form below. You will receive an email confirming your spot once registration is complete.

Registration for this program is FREE thanks to the generous support of the Cambridge and North Dumfries Community Foundation.
