INTRODUCTION
For over 20 years, YWCAs across Canada have been holding Women of Distinction events. Since 1994 the YWCA of Cambridge has honoured 96 women. The event recognizes women who through their own initiative, ability and effort, have made an exemplary achievement in their field; women who are outstanding role models because of their goals and the way they have achieved these goals. Proceeds from the event support the programs and services offered by the YWCA. Being nominated for the prestigious Women of Distinction Awards is itself a singular honour. All the selected nominees are given special recognition at a Nominees Reception held in the spring and at the awards celebration. The culmination of the nomination process is the Women of Distinction Awards where award recipients are formally recognized. Since 1994, more than 2500 women and men have attended this special evening and many volunteers have worked to organize and present this event.
