Girl's Programs

YWCA Cambridge is committed to delivering programs for girls and young women that focus on empowerment and leadership. YWCA programs are girl-led, strengths-based, and girl-focused. This means girls guide the development of their own programming, ensuring that programs take a strength-based approach, and address issues from a girl's unique perspective. Our girl's programs include: YWCA Cambridge Girl's Council, S.T.E.P.S, Power of Being a Girl, and Body Image & Self-Esteem Presentations.

MISS REPRESENTATION

On November 5, using a space generously donated by Cambridge Center for the Arts (and armed with delicious cookies from Tiny Cakes), 150 fathers, mothers, daughters and sons came together to view Miss Representation: an award winning documentary by Jennifer Siebel Newsom about the miss-treatment of women in the media. We are humbled by the response, and for those that contributed to the moderated discussion following the film. A particularly inspiring moment came from local politician Donna Reid, who spoke about the importance of recognizing potential leaders in our young women and encouraging them: to say, "you'd be a wonderful PM someday. Start thinking about it now."

Once again, many thanks to Cambridge for supporting change, community and equality.
