In 2007, YWCA Cambridge initiated a program in schools for girls and boys in Grades 6, 7 & 8 focusing on Body Image and Self-Esteem. Our presentations help students to see the value of a healthy lifestyle, to recognize the misrepresentations and misperceptions they see in magazines and on TV and to become more accepting of themselves just as they are. To date we have reached over 1200 students in public and catholic elementary schools.
The presentation is available to local schools/classes at no cost, and is flexible in order to best meet the needs of each school/classroom. The program can accommodate different audiences (boys and girls together or girls separately) and time allotments (one class period or a full hour presentation).
Presentations can be accompanied by teaching resources based on Ontario curriculum guidelines, developed by an educator with over 30 years of experience.
Bring the Body Image & Self-Esteem Presentation to your school!
