For more than 60 years YWCA Cambridge has provided high quality early learning and child care programs to families in Cambridge. Led by compassionate, registered staff our child care programs for children 18 months – 12 years old are based on the Reggio Emilia philosophy of early learning.

The YWCA Child Care Philosophy

Our goal is to foster a strong, positive self-image within your child. Each child develops skills in choice-making, problem solving and socialization. We strive to enhance both natural curiousity and creativity, and are dedicated to the concept of learning through play. While your child enjoys his or her time at the centre, our focus will be on helping all the children reach their full potential and on providing a sound base for future learning.

YWCA Cambridge is committed to the Reggio Emilia approach and emergent curriculum. This approach allows for teachers to respond to the children's ideas as curriculum unfolds. This emergent curriculum is documented in many different ways (webs, photos, project documentation, sketches, and curriculum books).

YWCA Child Care Staff

Competent, caring and nurturing Registered Early Childhood Educators are partners in learning with children and parents. Our centres are staffed in accordance with Ministry of Children and Youth Services regulations by warm, caring Registered Early Childhood Educators trained in Emergency First Aid and Infant/Child CPR. Our staff participate in yearly professional development activities and our cooks and supervisors maintain a current Safe Food Handlers certicate from the Region of Waterloo Department of Public Health.

Accessible Programs

YWCA Cambridge has an active partnership with the Community Living Association. Children with identified special needs are referred to our programs and bring a Resource Teacher Aid and other professionals to provide needed programming and support.
